Born in South Africa, Mike has always been passionate about music. Begging his mother for guitar lessons at 10, he played incessantly and has continued to do so some 40 years later. Taking music seriously from an early age, he studied classical guitar for five years with world-renowned teacher Eli Kassner and then moved on to study Jazz and Rock guitar at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, where he graduated cum laude in 1990.
Mike’s natural ability to write and perform is augmented by his remarkable work ethic and drive, which have led him into a wide array of musical arenas. He has toured and performed extensively, playing major jazz festivals including The Montreux Jazz Festival and The Montreal Jazz Festival. As an artist, he has released four CD’s, placed his music in numerous television series and has scored three feature films. Mike has also performed and co-written with other artists including Tia Brazda, Barbra Lica, Steven Taetz, Denielle Bassels and Simone Morris and has credits on three jazz CD’s that have reached #1 on the Canadian iTunes Jazz Charts. As a producer and engineer, he has produced and mixed numerous CD’s for a wide variety of artists.
Mike is currently working on his 5th solo album of original Jazz in his home studio in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, which is due to be released later in 2020.
