IN MEDIAS RES TRIO was founded in 2007 in Skopje Macedonia, by Orce Ickovski and Sanja Šuplevska. Since forming, the ensemble has been featured in concerts throughout Canada and Macedonia and has organized several international projects in cooperation with international institutions. The ensemble in its various forms, seeks to perform original compositions that are both unique and innovative and takes an active role in the realization of imaginative projects (experimental, baroque, classical and educational), that are supported by the Ministry of Culture. The ensemble exemplifies musical versatility and passion, while working to intensify and broaden the cultural connection of various styles and genres through their musical interpretation and performance.


Sanja Šuplevska Boiral

Sanja Šuplevska Boiral is a celebrated violinist, who has worked and studied in three different countries including Macedonia, Austria and Canada and has performed with a variety of musical artists from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Born in Skopje, Macedonia, she is part of a three-generation musical family. Her first professional venture was with the Macedonian Philharmonic, as it's youngest member and she has held notable positions such as the Assistant Concertmaster in the Macedonian Opera and Ballet and Concertmaster and Manager of FAME’S Orchestra, a film music orchestra that records for film productions in Los Angeles, Mexico and Paris.

Today Ms. Šuplevska performs frequently with international orchestras such as the Calgary Philharmonic, Red Deer Symphony Orchestra and Okanagan Symphony Orchestra. She is also the Artistic Director of the IN MEDIAS RES chamber ensemble in Skopje and Concertmaster-Coach of the Ambrose University Orchestra in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

During her studies at the Faculty of Music in Skopje, she was the winner of numerous competitions in the Former Yugoslavia, and frequently performed throughout Eastern Europe. In 1994, she started her specialization at the Faculty of Music of Performing Arts at Universität Mozarteum Salzburg in Salzburg, Austria where she studied with prominent violinists, including the acclaimed Ruggiero Ricci. and performed with various Austrian ensembles throughout Western Europe.

In 2000 she completed her Master of Music Degree in Violin Performance, at the University of Calgary in Canada. Upon graduation, she became a professor of violin in the prestigious Canadian Conservatory of Mount Royal, and professor for violin and chamber music at Ambrose University in Calgary, Canada. In addition, Ms. Šuplevska has been a frequent guest to Canadian and Macedonian competition juries and television programs, for both classical music and programs pertaining to cultural life and education.

Orce Ickovski

Orce Ickovski is a full-time bassoonist at the Macedonian National Opera and Ballet and performs regularly with the Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra and the Podgorica Symphony Orchestra in Montenegro.

Prior to graduating from the Faculty of Music in Skopje in 1999, he performed with the Macedonian Radio Philharmonic and worked as a music editor for the Macedonian National Television in Skopje.

Mr. Ickovski has won several state competitions in the performance of bassoon and chamber music. His solo performances include; numerous performances at international festivals in Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, Indonesia, China, Turkey, Canada, as well as festivals such as Dubrovnik Summer, Skopje Summer Festival, Ohrid Summer Festival, Days of Macedonian Music and the Helerei Festivals in Dresden and Weimar.

Since 2003, Mr. Ickovski is the founder and manager of the Associations Polifonia and Children's World (Music School and Children's Theater), for their educational and cultural activities and international collaborations. Mr. Ickovski’s associations are organizers of international and projects in the Republic of Macedonia, with guest artists from abroad who take part in domestic events and provide presentations of domestic artists and authors abroad. Among his responsibilities are the management of soloists and ensembles, such as Skopje Ladies, IN MEDIAS RES, and Alea, who take part in projects at international and domestic festivals, as well as collaborative projects with state institutions in Macedonia, Europe and Canada. He was responsible for many European tours of his ensembles, representing Macedonian contemporary music where his responsibilities included not only performances, but fundraising events and management of the group’s members.

Maja Kastratovic
Maja Kastratovic was born in 1969 in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia. She graduated from the prestigious Moscow P.I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory in the class of Prof. L.V. Rošina and completed postgraduate studies in Skopje in the class of Prof. B. Romanov.

As concert pianist she has performed with the Macedonian Philharmonic, and as chamber musicia in Moscow, Sankt Petersburg, London, Rome, Genoa, Chicago, Krumlov, Kiev, Graz, Villach, Ljubljana, Maribor, Celje, Belgrade, Novi Sad, as well as in international festivals such as L'Escala Music Festival - Empuries (Spain), XXII Villa de Canena Music Festival (Spain), Linares Autunno Musicale - Cosenza (Italy), Avellino (Italy); Gubbio Festival (Italy), Best music festival, Beringen (Belgium), Festival for contemporary music, Tirana (Albania), Ohrid and Skopje Summer Festivals (Macedonia).
